Job Opportunity: Public Works Utility Operator

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate various equipment and vehicles
  • Maintain roads and lane ways
  • Perform a variety of manual labor duties safely and effectively
  • Assist with the maintenance of water distribution and sewage systems as required
  • Work in all types of weather conditions
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of Town equipment and machinery
  • Conduct water and wastewater testing
  • Participate in basic safety training as required
  • Demonstrate good customer service skills

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Class 3 Alberta driver's license (an asset)
  • Experience operating equipment
  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekends
  • Current driver’s abstract required
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license
  • Ability to use hand tools and lift heavy objects
  • WHMIS and water testing certification (asset, not required)
  • First aid certification (asset, not required)

Carena Kitchen Assistants


These employment opportunities are seasonal/part-time and must be able to work days, evenings & weekends. These candidate(s) will be able to work independently, provide excellent customer services and work in a team environment.

Training will be provided to the suitable candidate(s) on the operations of the Carena Kitchen.


The suitable candidate(s) for these positions will be flexible and adaptable and when requested be able to complete the tasks of each of the positions listed above. Previous training in WHMIS is an asset but not required for the position(s), training will be provided.

Carena Kitchen

The Town of Viking is currently accepting applications for an initiative-taking, detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to join our team on a permanent full-time basis.

The Administrative Assistant plays a key role in supporting the efficient day-to-day operations of the municipality. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional multi-tasking abilities, a collaborative and team-oriented approach, and strong leadership skills.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.   Additional training or certification in business administration or a related field is an asset. 
  • Proven experience with the Catalis (Muniware) Accounting Software Suite and its accompanying modules
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Municipal experience is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently 
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Check
  • Driver’s Abstract

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Bookkeeping and financial administration
  2. Payroll processing
  3. Human Resources administration
  4. Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, Strategic Plan, Municipal Development Plan, Land Use Bylaw, Area Structure Plans, Outline Plans, and other Town of Viking policies
  5. Utility services administration
  6. Taxation and assessment support
  7. Responding to ratepayer and customer inquiries, questions, and concerns

Hours of Work:          8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.- Monday to Friday
