CRIME PREVENTION TIPS

 
 
 
  • Turn on outside lights at night.
  • Install a timer for lights.
  • Don't leave keys in vehicles.
  • Park recreational vehicles in locked garages or sheds.
  • If you can't park indoors, park recreational vehicles in sight and chained to something.
  • Install surveillance cameras.
  • Engrave items with your name or a serial number.
  • Keep a detailed list of property including photos and serial numbers.
  • Follow a nightly checklist to ensure everything is locked up.
  • When in your backyard lock your front door and vice versa.
  • When in the home, it's a good idea to keep your doors locked.
  • Consider keeping your blinds/curtains closed at night so people can't see in.
  • Consider installing an alarm system.
  • Be wary of strangers coming to your door. 
  • Arrange to have your mail picked up and consider stopping newspapers. 
  • Remember to have the grass cut, the leaves raked or the snow removed as necessary. 
  • Have someone put out your garbage cans on garbage pick up day.
  • Don't announce your vacation on your voicemail or social media. 
 
 HOW CAN I HELP MY COMMUNITY
 
    1. Get to know your neighbours
    2. Don't give out information about your neighbours to strangers.
    3. Offer to pick up the mail and maintain the yard for your neighbours when they are away. They may return the favour.
    4. Be aware of suspicious activity.
    5. Dogs barking more then usual.
    6. Alarms sounding.
    7. Ladder against a house.
    8. Broken windows. 
    9. People looking in vehicles.
   10. People trying to hide.
